Wonderland if you could take a hand 2024
Medium: Interactive Performance Installation
Materials: Sand, Plastic Gloves, Bed
Size: 200*80*150cm
Wonderland is an interactive performance installation that explores invisible domestic violence, mental health struggles, and social awareness. Drawing from my personal experience with intimate partner violence, I used 80 kilograms of sand—matching my ex-partner's weight—packed into gloves to cover my body as a blanket. Viewers were invited to "lift a hand," symbolizing both the burden of violence and the collective responsibility to address it.
Even after the weight of the sand was removed, it left traces on my body, representing the lingering scars of trauma. The performance concluded with two of my friends gently cleaning the sand from my body and helping me leave the bed—a powerful act of care and solidarity.
This work examines issues of gender and power, expressing both the vulnerability and resilience of the female body, revealing the potential risk of the idealization of intimacy.
